But if you can&rsquo;t, you can easily shred them yourself <em>(more on that below)<\/em>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Despite the title of this recipe, <strong>you can substitute shaved Brussels sprouts <\/strong>with another shredded cruciferous vegetable, such as cabbage, kale, or broccoli.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sliced Apples &ndash; <\/strong>any kind will do, I used Fuji. You can also use another sweet fruit, dried or fresh, such as sliced fresh pears or dried cranberries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Candied Pecans &ndash; <\/strong>or another candied nut, store-bought or homemade <em>(such as these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bowlofdelicious.com\/salted-cinnamon-candied-walnuts\/\">candied walnuts<\/a>) <\/em>is fine. If you want, you can use any plain nut as well, if you don&rsquo;t want to fuss with candied nuts or want a lower sugar option.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Red onion<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>For the dressing: <\/strong>Dijon mustard, honey, apple cider vinegar, extra-virgin olive oil, salt, and pepper. Usually you find Brussels sprouts cooked, but they are easy to enjoy raw if they are shredded like this. Having them in a salad is a great way to eat raw Brussels sprouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-tips-and-tricks\">Tips and Tricks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mix the salad well. <\/strong>When tossing the salad with the dressing, mix it for at least a minute or so. The more you toss it, the more evenly distributed the dressing will be. And the Brussels sprouts will soften a bit <em>(in a good way!)<\/em>. Kind of like when you make a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bowlofdelicious.com\/massaged-kale-salad\/\">massaged kale salad<\/a>, it&rsquo;s important to really distribute that dressing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>If the salad seems dry after mixing, <\/strong>you can drizzle in a little more olive oil, or make a little more dressing to add to it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-shave-brussels-sprouts\">How to &ldquo;shave&rdquo; Brussels Sprouts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Shaved Brussels sprouts are just shredded Brussels sprouts, the same as you would find shredded cabbage for coleslaw. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may be able to find it pre-shredded at your grocery store <em>(I got some at Trader Joe&rsquo;s for this recipe)<\/em>. But if you can&rsquo;t, you can do it yourself!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I recommend using a tool like a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3Ro1Utz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Mandoline Slicer<\/a> or a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3jhESYI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Food Processor Shredding Attachment<\/a> to make easy work of this. Or, if you have a little extra time and patience, you can <em>(carefully)<\/em> just use a knife to slice the sprouts.
