I have been using this recipe for a few years now every cooler season and it is great! It tastes very similar to the soup my late father made which adds to the enjoyment my family has for it.

I usually make 1.5x the dumplings as they are my favourite part, and I try to simmer the soup for a bit longer before adding the dumpling mix to allow the salt and pepper to help develop the flavours of the broth and vegetables a bit more. That being said? The recipe is truly excellent with no modifications and I also often make it exactly as-is since it is so simple and quick. Amazing comfort food! Thank you for a wonderful recipe.

Absolutely excellent. This dish is a fall & winter staple in my house & I love to serve it over egg noodles. It’s a crowd-pleaser every time & the dumplings always impress!

I’ve made this a few times, and it’s now a favorite. One of the best tasting soups, and so easy to make. It’s best on a cold snowy, windy day. Love it.

Easy and delicious. I do agree with others that it’s too thin even after adding in the additional 2 tbsp flour, next time I will double the butter and flour. The dumplings are the best part, perfectly fluffy. Will definitely be making this again.

I would probably use half and half instead of almond milk, as almond milk can add a bit of an almondy flavor (it won’t be BAD, but given the option I’d use something more neutral tasting). Oat milk is my favorite dairy-free substitute because it’s more neutral in flavor. Hope that helps!

My favorite non-dairy substitute for whole milk is oat milk because of its neutral taste. Almond milk tends to have a bit of an almondy flavor. You can try it if you want, I don’t think it would be BAD or anything, but personally I’d probably use oat milk or just leave out the dairy altogether and add more chicken broth!
