Love the idea of microwaving individual portions to save time! Thanks for sharing.

I bring the water to a boil, add the salt and oatmeal, give a stir, bring it back to a boil, cover and turn off the heat. The next morning I divide it up & microwave each bowl for a minute and a half. It is now ready for milk and sugar, Sometimes I add dried cranberries the last 20 seconds in the microwave.

This is a great question! I’m always hesitant to give exact microwave directions because they can vary so much. It’s hard to mess this recipe up! Really, the milk just serves to thin out the oats (which, after their overnight soak, will be very thick), and the heating serves to warm everything thoroughly. I’d say mix some milk in, then microwave for a minute on high, stir around and see if it’s hot enough, and then 30 second increments after that. Hope that helps!

I just have a quick question – at one point you say that instead of pulling out a pot and boiling them in the morning for 10 minutes, you can microwave individual portions – what are the microwave directions to equal 10 minutes of boiling? 1 minute? 5 minutes? Thanks!
